RULE BOOKS
Judging Criteria: The following factors are integral for how adjudicators make their assessments in Dance-sport events: Rhythm, the clarity of demonstrating timing and rhythmic interpretation of the music. Technique, the clarity of the skills involved in the mechanics of Dance-sport including footwork, use of feet, legs, hips, frame and all interrelated body mechanics that make up the techniques of dance. Includes getting the choreography right. Volume, the clarity of presenting lines and shapes, the use of posture, creating imagery that match the music and allow the partner to lead or follow. The X factor ! Some dancers are doing all the above and there is still the element that is hard to quantify, the ability to put all the skills together in a performance package. The above criteria are taught to the students along with bowing to each other and the audience, walking on and starting and finishing a dance during the 15 week learning period. The scrutinizing system is done in 2 parts: The first stage being the adjudicators marks are assessed by CONTASTE, which is an digital electrical process used by many international DanceSport events. The skating system of point scoring is used where the competitor that has the most 1’s or 2’s or 3’s add up to the lowest score. The lower the score, the higher the placing.
